2011 productivity

In 2011 I have worked on 59 tracks (whether recorded/produced/written or performed or all of that at the same time) out of which there was one whole album recorded in my studio - Oxxxymiron's "Vechniy Jid" and one mixtape recorded and mixed - Markul's "Vzveshenniy Rap" which were released also this year, my "Fame Money Game" music video; did 3 short films and one feature film, half a dozen commercials and ads for various companies like Samsung and Vodaphone, started doing live shows again including one in Birmingham and learned a lot more about music and filmmaking. Time it takes to mix a song

Mixing a song is a separate process and needs detailed attention and individual approach to every track even if working on the same album by the same artist. To get a good mix can take from about 4-5 hours for just vocals to 8-10 hours for a full mix of all the instruments and vocals. It is a mistake to think that mixing is only about getting the volumes right and slapping some compression/eq, there is a lot more to it. Editing audio, especially vocals correcting timing and sometimes pitch (especially when rappers sing themselves in the chorus without being trained in singing, if edited right still can get great sounding results and catchy choruses), effects processing and automation of everything from volumes to parameters on eqs, modulation, reverb, delay if needed, interesting effects on particular words and sounds takes time. It is worth to break the mixing time into a few sections and go and do something else to let the ears rest and reset. Also it is always best to leave the mix almost finished for the night, go to sleep and listen to it again in the morning fresh and tweak anything that needs it for the final mix then. You might wake up, listen to it again and hear nuances that escaped your attention after long hours in the studio the day before. Unless in urgency it is not advised to mix the song straight after recording if done by the same engineer, for many reasons it's best to leave mixing for the next day for fresh approach. There is no such thing as "15 minute final mix", within that time you can only take home from a studio a rough demo mix for reference, not a %100 final product at best it can possibly sound. From when I started engineering in 2007 to now the time I take to mix has only increased as I have learned to take a lot of details into account which is needed for professional mix.

Den Bro NEW mixtape out now!

Den Bro is a Russian rapper based in London, who was a part of rap group Tribe together with Markul and Chiff. He was one of the first artists to record at Multivizion Music from back in 2007. His new mixtape is out now recorded at Skyline studio and two tracks from the mixtape have been recorded and mixed by Jahna Sebastian at Multivizion Music in Croydon,
one of them has been previously released with a music video:

Den Bro has also recorded first collaboration track with rapper Oxxxymiron at Multivizion Music studio in spring 2008. Around that time the Russian Hip Hop movement among Russian speaking immigrants started to consolidate in London, artists started to work together, live shows and parties started to happen, Greenpark TV launched in 2011. Multivizion Music has been in the centre of this development with many artists recording in the studio. Rapper Oxxxymiron has since recorded many tracks at Multivizion Music including his album "Vechniy Jid" (2011)
Den Bro, Oxxxymiron, Markul and many others represent Russian Hip Hop movement in London.

Jahna has been exposed to music from early age. Learning basics of playing instruments and singing at prestigious kindergarten of Bolshoy Theatre, growing up in Arbat district of Moscow, graduating from high school at 15 years and then from Russian Academy of Music at the age of 20, she rose to prominence throughout 2005-2006 as the Russian reggae princess pioneering dancehall music in Russia, recording and performing with reggae and funk bands. This young lady is not just any young lady! She produces, acts and sings. All in a days work for this multi talented artist. Expect a high energy, fully mind blowing performance.

24/7 Grind

A lot of the time people assume that you are just having fun all day if you are doing music, and it's the easiest thing to do, but to succeed you stop treating it as a hobby. Music industry is a 24/7 work, you work 12, 14, 18 hours a day, no difference between weekdays and weekends, even when you sleep you are planning. Your work day might not always start 9am like most people, but it won't finish until 2am-4am, I end up mixing tracks, recording, edititng, producing etc. while many other people watch evening shows on TV and chill in the bars. I've been on Eastenders, but I have never got the time to watch even one episode. Some people I know only wake up at 12pm but they work until 6am in the studio so they are being far from lazy. Aside from the time when you are inspired to write a song, actually editing audio can be a really tedious experience. Even when I am with friends I am still thinking about tunes, also you have to do research every day. when entertainment industry is the only place where people willingly do a lot of work for free or don't see rewards for a long time. In 9-5 job everything is simple and easy to plan, holidays and all. I haven't been on a holiday for 5 years and add the stress of trials and errors in music industry where a lot of things depend on "being at the right time in the right place" and promotion. I have been doing music for years, but I have had a gazillion day jobs from waitress and secretary to a sales expert in a music tech shop. The hustle in this industry is the most hardcore and restless. I am blessed to do music and acting full time but at the same there is a lot of work involved to just make a 3 min song it takes way longer than 3 minutes.

Singer, producer and actress Jahna Sebastian played the lead role in short film “Nasheeli” which tells a story of a young Muslim girl from London by the name Nasheeli who is caught up in the vortex of conflicting emotions within herself. The story deeply reflects on issues which young women deal with especially in big cities like London zooming into this situation. The film was written and directed by Samantha Ulysses, Produced by Ema Makauskaite

While working on music Jahna Sebastian has been acting in small and big productions, films and commercials, taking still photos for adverts. While growing up she was taking part in all theatre performances at school, her first paid role was at the age of 13 in a music video by the late Russian rock star Anatoly Krupnov in 1999. She got the role through the same casting director who earlier had spotted and cast her for the lead role in PEPSI commercial in Russia, but her mother cancelled it when she found out that then 11-year old Jahna would have had to wear bikini for Brazil Carnival scenes in commercial. Although focusing mainly on music earlier Jahna who also produces and engineers for other artists as well as herself in her London studio, has also been concentrating more on her acting efforts more recently. Since releasing music video for her song “Fame Money Game” which she has produced, Jahna is also working on her album, upcoming mixtape by UK rapper Markul.

Only Faith

It's kinda twisted, once again my Mom has to go through re-approving here disability and every year has to do it in Russia despite a whole bunch of deseases you can imagine from battling breast cancer for years to stroke and diabetes and you have to pay for every check-up, every test and visit to every doctor, not mentioning medication and hospitalization, you have to pay for just jumping the queue because otherwise it can take months, years and could be just too late! Whoever has more money has more chances to survive. I am not talking about private health care, this is about local doctors, can't blame them though, their salaries are very low. It would have been cheaper to get the most expensive health insurance in the top company BUT ... nobody over there insures health of a person who had every been diagnosed with cancer! Because no matter how much money is spend there is no guarantee ... So it's like running in circles without knowing how much money it will cost, we have never been able to actually purchase all the medication and treatment needed for her and still it's just been pure faith, internal strength and trying to focus on positive thinking as much possible. I am my Mother's only child and the first time she was diagnosed with breast cancer was when I was 16 and I remember visiting her in hospital and seeing all these people with all forms of cancer in the post-operaton rooms and hearing their stories. I won't go into details cause it's too depressive. After that it's just been a battle with various things including side effects from one treatment to another and getting in huge debts and trying to get out of them. I wish the system over there will change and become more human towards people who have no other choice but fight for survival and buying life shouldn't be the only option because everyone should have equal chance to live. Only faith has been the main source of movement for my Mom in a form of mental power to heal from inside when there is not enough possibility to get help in a physical form from the outside - like the state.
